Jalosky Weekly – Volume 9 – Birthdays, Deep Creek Lake, and Easter

Wow! What a week! It definitely ranks up there in my favorite week of the year. It was so jam packed full of wonderful things, but I’ll tell ya, I’m ready to just sleep for a month now. Part of that is due to how busy we were, and part of that is due to Layla not sleeping again. Just when I thought we were getting to a better place with sleep, she threw us for a loop.

But let’s rewind back to the beginning of this volume of Jalosky Weekly.

My darling Alethea turned 3 years old on Monday! We spent most of the day relaxing and enjoying many of her new presents from her party last Sunday! I painted her fingernails, something which I’ve only done one other time, and she just loved it! She has a pretty big problem with sucking her thumb, so this deterred her from doing that for a little while.

We got her a pair of frozen slippers for her birthday, and she hasn’t taken them off all week! She has even slept in them. My goodness, there have been some stinky feet around here because of that. Haha.

Alethea got a few presents in the mail from family, including an adorable butterfly mask and wings set. Don’t judge me, but I realized as I was going through all these photos that she had it on upside down 90% of the time and I didn’t even notice! I was just thrilled that she put it on. She’s not a big fan of dressing up.

For her birthday dinner, she chose her favorite food of all. Can you guess what it was? Yep. Tacos! In fact, that’s what she asks to eat almost every day. We have raised her well. 😉 After dinner, we surprised her with a few more gifts: A Frozen water bottle, and a picnic table! She was in heaven and ate at it every meal while we kept it in our dining room temporarily.

When I say that March is a big birthday month for our family, it’s true. But the last week of March is literally birthday WEEK. Alethea’s birthday was Monday, followed by my mom’s birthday on Tuesday! We spent the afternoon celebrating with her! While we didn’t personally celebrate any birthdays on Wednesday, it was my brother’s girlfriend’s birthday! She fits right into birthday week. 😉 She doesn’t live around here, but I’m sure one day we will be celebrating all week long!

I snuck out on Wednesday night to cut our daffodils and bring them inside. The temperature was quickly dropping, and snow as expected for Thursday! Sure enough, it snowed almost the entire day! April fools? Maybe. While no one has a birthday on April 1, Jonathan took me out that night for a birthday surprise! We had a lovely dinner at the Cheesecake Factory! This was only my second time eating at one. It was quite delicious! I will say, it is one place that I totally was okay with being socially distanced. Normally, you’re sitting about 2 feet away from the next table and so it’s like one big loud noise when trying to talk to your company. But having an empty table on each side was just perfect for conversation. I’d like to petition them to stay that way permanently. Haha.

Friday was my actual birthday! I turned a lovely 28 years old. Jonathan got us some zeppoli from Patti’s Pasticceria. If you ever go there and get cannoli or zeppoli, be sure to get them filled with pistachio cream!!! It’s the BEST!

After breakfast, we packed up and headed out to our FIRST WEEKEND AT DEEP CREEK LAKE! I’ve been keeping that surprise inside. We weren’t sure if we would be able to go or not, but it worked out for use to go for Friday and Saturday. My family headed down super early and opened up the house. We stopped at Ohiopyle on the way there for some lunch and beautiful views. It was only about 30 degrees, so we didn’t stay long, but it was really nice. We had to eat in the car since it was so cold and windy, but the girls just loved that.

Then we got to the lake and just relaxed until it was time to go get dinner at Brenda’s Pizzeria! We ordered an abbondanza pizza for us and my family to celebrate my birthday. Brenda’s has some of the best pizza in the world! Their abbondanza is 26” of delicious goodness. It’s enough to feed a small army…or at least my family. Haha. We at the whole pie. As you can see, the pizza was just as big as Layla.

While we waited for our pizza, Jonathan and I stopped at Trader’s Coffee House to get some sweet treats. I tried their special “Peeps” frappe. It was delicious and so cute!

Once the kids went to bed, the games began! We played Here to Slay and Clank! – The Mummy’s Curse. Two of my favorites. Playing games with family is just the best.

Saturday morning, we ate a delicious breakfast of hot cross buns (also from Patti’s) and then went for a walk. It was a good day relaxing until we had to leave to come home.

Sunday morning, we got up to go to sunrise service and praise the Lord on Resurrection Day! We let the kids go in their pjs. Alethea proudly wore her sunglasses the entire time. The sunrise was just beautiful! It was just a little bit hazy and so you could look right at the bright orange sun as it rose!

We enjoyed a breakfast at Bob Evan’s afterwards and headed to church for a wonderful Easter celebration! He is risen as He said!

We had an easter egg hunt, and easter dinner at my parent’s house last evening, and it was so much fun.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this time last year, and how we couldn’t even go to church on Easter. It was a huge bummer for me. In fact, the last 3 Easter’s were not great for us for different reasons. But this year was perfect, and I am so thankful.

I hope we are headed into a week of relaxation and organization. After 3 birthdays in our house in the last 3 weeks, it looks like a present bomb went off in our house. There’s so much to declutter and move around as we head into a wonderful spring week! The trees are beginning to flower! The weather is finally looking to stay warmer! I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Love Deeply. Live Passionately.
